Since the establishment of GFoundation’s Ethiopia branch in March 2022, we have been actively tackling the challenges faced by women and girls during their menstruation. Our support extends beyond providing hygiene kits; we are dedicated to fostering comprehensive hygiene education and undertaking the construction of hygiene facilities.

In this fourth round of support, we provided hygiene kits to girls and women in various professions in Ethiopia, including female Taekwondo national athletes.

Due to negative perceptions and the high cost of menstrual products, some women and girls used to resort to unhygienic methods such as using old rags or socks during their menstrual periods. Not only is this inconvenient, but it also has an adverse effect on their health. This is especially true for working women and female athletes.

To address these issues, GFoundation organized a distribution event on November 29th, delivering hygiene products, including menstrual cups and pads, to 200 female Taekwondo national athletes and working women in various professions in Ethiopia. A total of 470 menstrual pads and 403 menstrual cups were provided in various sizes.

Many vulnerable women and girls still worry about their menstruation period, which is their basic rights to perceive as a normal and natural part of life. This concern leads to negative effects in their lives, such as dropping out of school or hesitating to participate in physical activities due to menstruation-related challenges.

GFoundation is committed to ensuring that vulnerable women and girls perceive menstruation not as a daunting or embarrassing experience, but as a normal and natural routine of life.
