Standing with Girls for Dignity, Health, and Confidence
Do you know what makes March 8 so meaningful around the world?
March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the achievements of women and continuing the global movement for gender equality.
The day traces its roots back to the early 1900s, when women workers in the United States and Europe began organizing and advocating for fair wages, safer working conditions, and the right to vote. Their voices sparked a movement that continues today.
In 1975, the United Nations officially recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day, and every year since then people around the world have marked the day by celebrating progress and calling attention to the challenges women and girls still face.
A Challenge Many Girls Still Face
More than a century has passed since those early calls for equality.
Yet today, many girls still struggle with something that should be simple and basic: access to menstrual products.
For girls living in economically vulnerable households, purchasing sanitary products every month can be difficult. As a result, some girls experience anxiety, embarrassment, or interruptions to their daily routines and education during their menstrual cycle.
Menstruation should never prevent a girl from attending school, participating in activities, or feeling confident in her daily life.
Quick Facts About Period Poverty
Some girls miss school because they do not have menstrual products
Period poverty can affect girls’ health, confidence, and education
Many low-income families struggle to afford menstrual products
Supporting Girls Through Menstrual Health Programs
To address this challenge, Gfoundation continues to support girls and women experiencing period poverty by providing essential menstrual products and education.
Menstrual Care Kits Distribution
Rather than distributing individual items alone, the organization prepares Menstrual Care Kits designed to provide practical support during menstruation.
Each kit may include:
- A six-month supply of sanitary pads
- Hygiene underwear
- A pouch for storage
- Additional hygiene items
These kits help reduce financial stress while allowing girls to manage their menstrual health with comfort and dignity.
One parent shared:
“The cost of sanitary pads every month was a real burden for our family.
After receiving the support, it has eased the financial pressure on us.”
A student who received the kit also said:
“Since I only live with my father and brothers, it was hard to talk about needing sanitary pads.
Now that I have enough to use, I feel much more comfortable.”
Menstrual Health Education
Providing products alone is not enough.
Gfoundation also organizes educational programs that help adolescents better understand menstrual health and build confidence in caring for their bodies.
One student who attended the session shared:
“At first I felt scared and confused about menstruation, but after listening to the class, I felt much more confident.”
Through education, girls gain not only knowledge—but also the reassurance that menstruation is a natural and healthy part of life.
Improving Hygiene Facilities
In addition to providing menstrual products and education, Gfoundation works with partner organizations to improve sanitation facilities so girls can access clean and safe restrooms.
Renovated facilities help create environments where girls can manage their menstrual health safely and comfortably.
A partner organization shared:
“Cracked tiles and moldy windows had created an unsafe environment for the children.
Thanks to this support, they now have a clean and safe restroom to use.”
Continuing the Spirit of International Women’s Day
More than 100 years ago, women marched for dignity, opportunity, and equality.
Today, that same spirit continues when we support girls in ways that allow them to live their everyday lives with confidence.
Through menstrual care kits, health education, and improved hygiene facilities, Gfoundation is working to ensure that girls can focus on learning, growing, and building their futures—without unnecessary barriers.
