Empowering Youth Leadership to Support Women and Girls in Need
Last week, Gfoundation staff visited Art & Design High School in New York City to pick up the generous donations collected through the school’s 2nd Annual Feminine Hygiene Drive. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural effort, this year’s drive showcased the remarkable dedication of students who are committed to supporting women and girls facing hygiene insecurity across the city.

Student-Led Effort Through the Discussions for Democracy Club
The month-long campaign was organized by upperclassmen from the school’s Discussions for Democracy Club, who led efforts to collect essential hygiene items such as pads, tampons, soaps, and towelettes.
Special appreciation goes to Indra Higgins, Dunya Keskin, and Sydney Majak—the students photographed above—whose leadership guided the planning, promotion, and implementation of the drive. We also extend warm thanks to Ms. Janeen Johnson, Parent Coordinator, who facilitated communication and scheduling with our team throughout the campaign.

A Drive Rooted in Advocacy and Awareness
The initiative launched on October 6, 2025, in recognition of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, connecting students’ efforts with a broader global conversation on dignity, equity, and access.
This year’s results were extraordinary:
donations nearly quadrupled compared to last year—a powerful sign of the community’s generosity and the growing awareness of menstrual hygiene needs among students and families.

A Community United for Impact
We extend our sincere gratitude to all club members, faculty, and the Parent Teacher Association, whose support made this effort possible. Their enthusiasm and collaboration demonstrate how small acts of solidarity can spark meaningful, lasting change.
This student-led initiative shows that activism can begin anywhere—at school, with friends, or through a simple desire to uplift others. We are inspired by these young leaders and look forward to celebrating this drive for many years to come, as each new class steps up to champion causes that matter.
