This July, GFoundation joined Louisville Saehan Church, Chodae Community Church, and other participating churches in supporting refugee youth in Louisville, Kentucky. As part of this collaborative effort, GFoundation provided hygiene essentials and recreational supplies for the summer camp.
A Week of Activities for Refugee Youth in Louisville
From July 18–24, 2026, Louisville Saehan Church hosted a week of summer camp programming for refugee youth who have resettled in the Louisville area, with Chodae Community Church and other churches participating through volunteer service and support.
Louisville Saehan Church has served refugee families who have resettled in the Louisville area for many years. Inspired by this ongoing work, other churches have joined the effort, working together each year to serve refugee children through the summer camp.
Approximately 90 to 100 young people participated each day, taking part in soccer, small groups, educational sessions, worship services, and community outreach.
Participating families represented more than 30 countries, bringing together children and teenagers from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
This year, the collaborative effort expanded further. Five churches participated, bringing together 42 mission team members, including 16 volunteers from partner congregations.
According to the program organizers, this collaboration increased the program’s capacity and allowed responsibilities previously handled by one church to be shared among a larger team.
Soccer, Small Groups, and Educational Activities
Each day included a range of activities for participating youth.
Volunteers began the morning together before visiting neighborhoods throughout the Louisville area to connect with local refugee families. In the afternoons, youth gathered for small-group sessions, soccer training, and VBS and educational sessions for girls. Evenings concluded with meals, reflection, and preparation for the following day.
For boys participating in the IYC Soccer Camp, participants were divided into eight teams of nine to ten youth. Volunteer leaders supported the teams throughout training and league-style games.
Girls participated in VBS and educational sessions focused on identity, self-worth, and caring for their bodies and minds.
The program was organized around three themes—Engage, Encourage, and Empower—with sessions focused on helping participants recognize their value, purpose, dreams, and talents.
GFoundation’s Role in the Collaborative Effort
As one part of the broader collaborative effort, GFoundation contributed hygiene essentials and recreational supplies for participating youth.
For the girls, GFoundation provided 100 hygiene kits. Each kit contained menstrual pads, wipes, hand soap, lip balm, and a hairband set.
The hygiene kits were provided alongside educational sessions focused on self-care, confidence, and healthy development.
GFoundation also provided recreational supplies for the soccer camp, including T-shirts, water bottles, hats, and athletic clothing.
Soccer camp items were prepared in red bags with the message:
“For Young Athletes, Ready to Play!”
Girls received orange hygiene and menstrual-care kits carrying the message:
“For Every Girl, Growing Strong & Brave.”
Overall, the Louisville Refugee Children and Family Support project reached 110 beneficiaries.
Looking Beyond One Week
The Louisville program was designed with a longer-term vision for refugee youth growing up in the United States.
Program organizers emphasized supporting young people during adolescence and creating opportunities for them to participate in the broader community as they grow.
For GFoundation, this project was an opportunity to contribute practical resources as one part of a broader community effort serving refugee youth in Louisville.
As part of the collaborative effort led locally by Louisville Saehan Church and supported by participating churches, GFoundation contributed hygiene essentials and recreational supplies for youth attending the camp.
