Why Access to Menstrual Products Matters for Teens
Menstrual products are essential healthcare items—not optional purchases.
For teens and young adults facing financial hardship, buying pads or tampons may compete with other basic household expenses. This can force young people to delay changing products, miss school or activities, or experience unnecessary stress during their menstrual cycle.
Healthcare providers increasingly recognize that access to menstrual hygiene products is an important part of supporting overall health, well-being, and confidence for adolescent patients.
Partnering with ChristianaCare to Meet an Immediate Need
ChristianaCare, a nonprofit health system serving northern Delaware and the surrounding region, identified an urgent gap for teens and young adults receiving care through its Center for Women’s and Children’s Health.
While postpartum supplies were available, menstrual hygiene products for adolescent patients were limited.
To help fill this need, GFoundation donated 73 packs of sanitary pads and tampons.
Hospital nurses assembled care bags containing menstrual products and distributed them directly to low-income teens and young adults, ensuring they had essential supplies to take home after their appointments.
Why Hospital Partnerships Matter
Hospitals and community health centers often see needs that extend beyond medical treatment.
By partnering with healthcare providers like ChristianaCare, GFoundation can respond to practical needs that directly affect patients’ daily lives. Together, we help ensure that essential menstrual products reach teens and young adults when they need them most.
These partnerships strengthen community health while treating every individual with dignity, compassion, and respect.
