Access to books can open doors to learning, imagination, and opportunity.

Yet in many communities across Madagascar and Ethiopia, children have limited access to books or dedicated spaces where they can read outside the classroom.

Through the Dreaming Library Project, GFoundation is working with photographer Shin Misik to help expand educational opportunities by creating welcoming library spaces and increasing access to books for children.

Expanding Educational Opportunities Through Libraries

The Dreaming Library Project was created to help children discover the joy of reading while providing safe spaces for learning.

Working alongside photographer Shin Misik, whose work has documented communities throughout Africa for many years, GFoundation has established Dreaming Libraries in Madagascar and Ethiopia.

These libraries provide children with access to books that were previously unavailable, creating new opportunities to read, explore ideas, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

A Partnership Inspired by Communities

Shin Misik is widely known for photographing the landscapes, cultures, and people of Africa.

Beyond documenting these communities, he has long sought ways to respond to local needs through practical support and meaningful partnerships.

His collaboration with GFoundation reflects a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities and investing in children’s futures.

More Than Books

The Dreaming Library Project extends beyond building libraries.

Together with local communities, GFoundation and Shin Misik have also carried out a Family Portrait Project, providing professional family photographs for families who had never owned one.

The partnership has also included support for families experiencing economic hardship, including assistance with housing for families affected by unexpected circumstances.

These efforts reflect a broader commitment to strengthening communities while supporting children’s education and family well-being.

Why Access to Books Matters

Reading helps children build literacy skills, strengthen curiosity, and develop confidence as learners.

When schools and communities have welcoming places where children can access books, they gain additional opportunities to explore new ideas beyond the classroom.

By creating libraries and increasing access to reading materials, the Dreaming Library Project helps provide learning environments where children can continue growing through education.

Join the Dreaming Library Project

GFoundation believes every child deserves opportunities to learn, imagine, and dream about the future.

Through partnerships with supporters, educators, and community leaders, we continue expanding access to books and educational resources for children in Madagascar and Ethiopia.

Together, we can help create more spaces where children discover the joy of reading and the possibilities that education can bring.

Together, we can create a space where children can explore stories, build knowledge, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
