Supporting Mothers and Children Through Practical Community Support

On August 5, GFoundation visited Concourse House, one of our partner shelters in the Bronx, to provide children’s clothing and diapers for mothers and young children currently residing at the shelter.

This donation was made through GFoundation’s Women’s Shelter & Transitional Housing Support Program, with children’s clothing provided by Mom’s Mission Thrift Shop. Through this program, GFoundation works alongside local shelter partners to provide practical resources that support families during periods of transition.

Delivering Essential Items for Growing Children

During the visit, the GFoundation team met with Maria Torres, Recreational Coordinator at Concourse House, who welcomed us and shared more about the needs of the families they serve.

Together, we reviewed the donated items and discussed how they could best support residents at the shelter.

The donation included:

  • Children’s clothing ranging from newborn sizes to age 7
  • Diapers for younger children

Maria shared that the clothing would support an upcoming clothing distribution event for residents. The items will also help school-aged children prepare for the fall season as families gather clothing and necessities for the new school year.

Supporting Families Through Everyday Necessities

For mothers and families living in transitional housing, children’s clothing and diapers are essential items that require frequent replacement as children grow.

Access to appropriately sized clothing and basic care items can help reduce some of the daily expenses families face, allowing parents to focus their limited resources on other important needs.

Through partnerships with local shelters, GFoundation aims to respond to practical needs with support that is timely and meaningful.

Continuing Hygiene Support Through Shelter Partnerships

During our conversation, we also received feedback on the Initial Hygiene Kits previously provided through GFoundation’s Women’s Shelter & Transitional Housing Support Program.

These kits are prepared for women entering shelter care and include essential personal-care items to help mothers feel welcomed and supported during the early days of their transition.

Feedback from shelter partners helps GFoundation better understand how resources are being used and what additional needs may arise within the community.

Growing Together Through Partnership

We are grateful to Maria and the entire Concourse House team for welcoming GFoundation and sharing their insights into the needs of mothers and children at the shelter.

Through continued collaboration with shelter partners, community supporters, and donors, GFoundation hopes to provide essential resources that help women and families navigate challenging circumstances with dignity and care.

Your gift helps women and children in shelters find safety, dignity, and hope.

Together, we can make every shelter a place to begin again.
