One Idea Can Make a Lasting Difference
Meaningful change often begins with a single person choosing to use their talents to help others.
For Emily Cho, a rising senior at Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, New Jersey, that choice became Better Together—a student-led fundraising initiative that transforms original greeting card designs into support for communities across Africa.
Emily’s story is a reminder that generosity is not limited by age, distance, or resources. Sometimes, it simply begins with a willingness to act.
Inspired by a Mission She Couldn’t Join
Emily’s inspiration came from her grandmother, who had long dreamed of serving on a mission trip to Africa. When her grandmother recently traveled to Ghana, she regularly shared stories and updates from the field.
Although Emily could not travel with her, those conversations sparked an important question:
How could she make a difference from home?
“Watching my grandmother pursue her dream encouraged me to find my own way of giving back. While I would have loved to join her on the trip, I wanted to extend that same love through something meaningful I could make myself.”
Rather than seeing distance as a barrier, Emily decided to use the skills she already had.
Turning Creativity into Action
In December 2025, Emily launched Better Together, combining her interests in marketing, design, and outreach into a purpose-driven project.
She designs original greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and other special occasions. Every purchase helps support GFoundation’s sustainable development programs across Africa, including Community Health & WASH initiatives that serve women and children in Ethiopia and Madagascar.
Emily has personally led every part of the initiative—from developing the concept and creating the brand identity to designing each card, promoting the project online, and overseeing its charitable mission.
Her work demonstrates how creativity and entrepreneurship can become meaningful tools for serving others.
Every Card Carries a Purpose
For Emily, each greeting card represents more than a thoughtful gift.
It is an opportunity for someone to celebrate an important moment while helping create opportunities for women, children, and families in communities served through GFoundation’s programs.
By connecting everyday celebrations with charitable giving, Better Together shows that even simple acts of generosity can contribute to lasting impact.
A Lesson in Generosity
Reflecting on her journey, Emily shared the lesson that has stayed with her the most:
“This experience has shown me that philanthropy isn’t defined by how much you give, but by the intention behind it. You don’t need billions of dollars to make an impact—just a willingness to give back. Even the smallest ideas can grow into something bigger than you ever imagined.”
Her story encourages others to recognize that their own talents—whether in art, business, writing, technology, or another field—can become powerful ways to serve their communities.
Looking Ahead
As Emily prepares for college, she hopes to study marketing and brand communications while continuing to explore how design and storytelling can inspire positive change.
