Creating Opportunities Through Reading
In rural Madagascar, many children grow up with limited access to books and educational resources.
At EPP Amboasary Elementary School, students arrive each day eager to learn, but opportunities to explore reading beyond the classroom have often been limited. Without access to a dedicated library, books were scarce, and independent learning opportunities were difficult to find.
Yet despite these challenges, a love of learning has continued to grow among the students.
A School Supported by Community
For years, EPP Amboasary has been supported by our partners Park and Lee, who regularly visit the school to spend time with students.
During their visits, they bring food, localized books, and encouragement to the children. Students gather together for reading time, listening to stories and exploring books that help spark curiosity and imagination.
These simple but meaningful activities helped foster a culture of reading long before a library existed.
As the number of students and reading activities continued to grow, the need for a dedicated learning space became increasingly clear.
Building the Dreaming Library
To help expand educational opportunities for children, GFoundation launched the Dreaming Library Madagascar Project.
From February to May 2026, GFoundation worked alongside local partners, community leaders, and supporters to construct a new library at EPP Amboasary.
The project was made possible through the generosity of individual donors, fundraising efforts led by photographer and GFoundation Ambassador Shin Misik, contributions through Give.Asia, and support from GFoundation Korea.
Together, these efforts transformed an empty piece of land into a welcoming space dedicated to learning and discovery.
More Than a Building
The Dreaming Library was designed to be more than a place to store books.
The library now provides students with access to age-appropriate reading materials and educational resources that support literacy development, reading comprehension, and self-directed learning.
For many children, this is the first time they have had access to a dedicated library space filled with books they can regularly enjoy.
The library also provides teachers with additional resources to support classroom learning and encourages students to develop lifelong reading habits.
Most importantly, it creates a permanent home for the reading activities that have already become an important part of school life.
Celebrating a New Beginning
In April 2026, students, teachers, community members, and local government representatives gathered to celebrate the opening of the Dreaming Library.
Children participated in performances, explored the new library, and celebrated the beginning of a new chapter for their school.
The ceremony reflected the collaboration and commitment of many individuals and organizations who shared a common belief: every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.
Thank You for Helping Build a Place Where Dreams Can Grow
Every shelf, every book, and every reading corner represents the generosity of people who believe that education can change lives.
Thank you to the donors, partners, and supporters who helped make the Dreaming Library possible.
Together, we are helping children in Madagascar turn pages, discover new possibilities, and build brighter futures through education.
