What’s MH Day—and How Is It Celebrated?
Menstrual Hygiene (MH) Day is celebrated every May 28 to raise awareness about the importance of menstrual health and break the stigma around periods. Initiated by WASH United in 2014, MH Day is a global joint movement with over 1,100 partner organizations and individuals.

Around the world, people celebrate by:
– Donating menstrual products
– Sharing stories about cultural stigma on periods
– Calling for policy changes to support menstrual equity
– Joining events such as marathons, fundraisers, or even parties on menstruation!
Why Does It Matter?
Around the world, 500 million women and girls don’t have access to the basic facilities they need to manage their periods safely and with dignity.
Even in the United States, menstrual challenges persist. 1 in 4 students say they’ve struggled to afford period products, and nearly half feel stressed or embarrassed because of it. It’s not just about access—the stigma is real. About 75% of teens say there’s still a negative attitude toward periods, and 60% believe society teaches people to be ashamed of them.
