Menstrual health is one of the most important parts of a woman’s daily life. In rural Morocco, however, many women struggle with purchasing and accessing menstrual products that can help them go through their menstruation safely and hygienically.

Approximately one-fifth of Morocco’s economically disadvantaged population resides in the country’s rural regions. Because of the geography and the lack of infrastructure in these regions, it is difficult for women living in these regions to purchase menstrual products when they need them. In addition, the 2023 earthquake in some of the regions made it even more difficult for goods to be delivered to these regions. This prolonged lack of access can potentially cause complications in a woman’s health and negatively affect their mental health.

While hygiene education is part of the Moroccan school curriculum, it is not required. In addition, Morocco lacks enough health professionals that can effectively instruct students about their personal health, public hygiene practices and menstrual health for female students. Because of this, many students are unable to learn about basic hygiene practices that should be taught to them during their schooling.
GFoundation, in collaboration with L’aide et L’action pour le monde (AAM), supports 330 women who live in the rural regions of Morroco with menstrual products and provides hygiene education to destigmatize menstruation in their communities.

Every woman has the right to go spend their menstruation in a clean and safe environment. GFoundation and its partners are committed to supporting women around the world from all walks of life. Through the menstrual pad distribution project in Morrocco, we hope to create more safe spaces for women and destigmatize menstruation.
