Amid disheartening news from all around the world, we are given the opportunity to think and wish for the health and well-being of our neighbors. Now, more than ever, we all need to remember to have hope and endure. All of us can contribute to making the world a better place and improve the lives of others. This was the case in Myanmar where your donations made a difference in the lives of Burmese (Myanmar people or Myanmarese) women who are victims of the 2021 coup in Myanmar.

February 1st, 2021, the Myanmarese army took control of the country’s government and established a military junta. During the coup, it was estimated that the army massacred 144 innocent civilians. Today, it is estimated that 3,800 civilians were murdered. Today marks two and a half years after the start of the coup in Myanmar. The state of emergency declared by the military government has been extended indefinitely.

To make things worse, minor skirmishes across the country destroyed many villages, homes, schools and people’s livelihoods.

“The Myanmar army carried out a violent assault against civilians during one of the biggest holidays in Myanmar. This assault took the lives of 168 innocent civilians. Among the dead were 10 pregnant women and 40 children who were younger than the age of eight.”

-Susanna, Minister of NUG Ministry of Women, Youth and Children Affairs

Medical supplies are especially hard to bring into the country due to the paralyzed customs clearance system. This made delivery of medical supplies difficult, and the people of Myanmar are having a hard time maintaining even the very basic of hygiene levels. Women and children, who are often vulnerable socially and economically, suffer the most from the unequal distribution and access to medical supplies and hygienic goods. Unfortunately, continuous exposure to the lack of hygienic supplies and lackluster hygiene levels was the reality for many Myanmarese women during Myanmar’s time of unending conflict and social instability.

We at GFoundation have been updating you since September of 2022 about our menstrual pad distribution project for the vulnerable women of Myanmar. The project has already been underway for the past year, and we hope that our contribution has helped the women of Myanmar to not lose hope.

Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to deliver menstrual pads to 650 refugee women and youth in Myanmar’s southern region of Yangon. This delivery helped these women to maintain basic hygiene levels during their menstruation.

GFoundation promises you that we will continue to nurture the future and potential of the women of Myanmar all through the difficult times that are in front of them.

Please stay engaged in the stories of our neighbors who are suffering from a lack of healthcare and basic hygiene. With your continued support, GFoundation will commit to further supporting vulnerable women so that they can spend their time of the month safely and healthily.
