Since five months after the devastating explosions in Beirut, Lebanon, countless individuals and communities have been suffering from physical and mental pain,
and have even been struggling to make a living. The country was already grappling with a severe economic crisis, political instability, and a growing refugee
population before the explosions occurred. There have been large-scale anti-government protests as well. After the big explosion, the spread of the COVID-19
virus has accelerated. Amidst this chaotic situation, 80% of food has disappeared due to the explosion leaving people with almost no way to solve their
immediate hunger. Those in Lebanon, who lost their homes for a long time, are still living in extreme pain and fear.
Countries from around the world offered medical supplies, financial assistance, and search and rescue teams to help locate survivors trapped under the debris.
Gfoundation stepped in to provide immediate relief. Following its initial response, Gfoundation continued to mobilize a second round of response teams.
supported 81 households, approximately 405 people, with one month’s worth of essential food kits.
Through both rounds of response, Gfoundation was able to help 121 households, over 600 people in total.
“I am a single mother of three boys. I used to work as a cook at a school, and I also volunteered to cook meals for elderly people in my neighborhood. But when
the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the city was locked down and the school was closed. I lost my job, and I could no longer volunteer. The Beirut explosion made it
even more difficult to find food for my children. My children and I often went to bed hungry. My life was already difficult before the explosion, but after the Beirut
explosion, I completely lost hope. However, Gfoundation’s emergency relief team appeared at my door with a food package. We were so happy to see the food,
and we all started to cry. I prayed for help, but it seemed like no one was listening. But then you came and helped us. I am so grateful for the food. It is exactly
what we need.”
– Anna, single parent in Beirut, Lebanon.
“The country is still in chaos and the food crisis is not yet resolved. Many people are already struggling. However, the food kits you sent are a great help to people
to survive in this difficult situation. We hope that Lebanon will be able to solve the food crisis on its own in June. Thank you to all your help.”
