Lebanon was struck by devastating explosions on August 4, 2020, in the port of Beirut. The massive explosions killed at least 200 people and injured over 6,000.
The initial explosion, described as one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history, was triggered by the approximately 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate
stored unsafely in the warehouse for several years. The blast generated a massive shockwave, resulting in extensive damage to buildings, infrastructure, and
the surrounding areas. The impact of the explosions was felt across the entire city, shattering windows, crumbling facades, and reducing neighborhoods to
rubble. The explosion’s force reached far beyond the port, causing destruction up to several kilometers away. Hospitals and medical facilities were quickly
overwhelmed by the wounded individuals, making it challenging to provide timely and adequate care to all those in need. Due to this explosion, 300,000 people
were evacuated and lost their homes.
Gfoundation immediately initiated emergency assistance to those affected by the explosion.
Emergency kits were assembled with water, rice, beans, flour, tea and sugar. These kits consist of one-month food kits to 40 households, about 200 people.
“I live with my husband and five children. My husband is disabled and cannot work, and we have been struggling to make ends meet. The explosion destroyed
our home and my youngest daughter got serious eye injury. I was so desperate to get some help. Gfoundation brought us food, water, and other supplies, and
they even helped us to find a new place to live. They also helped my daughter to get the medical care she needed, and they even helped to raise money so that
she could go to college. They brought us hope and a new beginning. I know that we would not be able to survive without them.”
– Anna, victim of Beirut Explosion.
