Economic Hardships
Refugee families often arrive with limited resources and must live on minimal government or NGO assistance, typically covering only the initial 3-12 months.
Many struggle to secure stable employment due to language barriers, lack of local work experience, or non-transferable skills from their home countries.
Challenges in Raising and Educating Children
Refugee parents face difficulties in providing proper care and education for their children. The high cost of childcare, limited access to quality education, and the language barrier leave many children at risk of falling behind academically. Additionally, refugee children may feel isolated in school environments due to cultural differences and discrimination.
Psychological and Emotional Struggles
Many refugees carry the trauma of displacement, war, or persecution. Adapting to a new culture while processing past experiences can lead to feelings of isolation, depression, or anxiety. The stress of navigating an unfamiliar society while supporting their families further exacerbates these mental health challenges.
Social and Cultural Barriers
Language and cultural differences often make it difficult for refugees to integrate into local communities. Without social networks or support systems, they may feel alienated and excluded, hindering their ability to build a stable and fulfilling life in their new home.
How We Support Refugees
In collaboration with the Korean Church of Syracuse, Gfoundation continues to provide practical and meaningful support to refugee families.
We have supported refugee children and their families by offering menstrual pads, lunch boxes, personal care items, and computer classes.
These initiatives help address immediate needs while fostering dignity, comfort, and the essential skills required for integration and self-sufficiency.
Refugee Support in the United States
Gfoundation runs tailored programs to support the long-term stability and community integration of refugees in the United States. For instance, after-school learning programs for refugee youth provide opportunities to develop academic and social skills.
In addition, mentoring programs and vocational training are offered to help refugees build connections within their communities and achieve economic self-reliance. Beyond providing basic necessities, Gfoundation empowers refugees to plan their futures and fully participate as members of their local communities.
Refugee Support Worldwide
Gfoundation partners with local missionaries, churches, and NGOs to support refugees worldwide by providing essential food and daily necessities. We also run education and health/hygiene programs to ensure refugees can live in safer and healthier environments.
For example, we provide food and essential supplies to Syrian refugees in Türkiye and menstrual pads to women in Myanmar’s Yangon refugee camps. These efforts address refugees’ immediate needs and contribute to improving their quality of life. Through such initiatives, we aim to protect their fundamental rights and create a foundation for stable integration into local communities.
