It has been one year since GFoundation operated the “Mobile Library for Cambodian Children” project. Today, on the first anniversary of this project, we are excited to bring you an updated story from Cambodia.

Located 69 kilometers west of the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, the Kongpong Speu region is where GFoundation launched our mobile library.

The mobile library is located in the outskirts of rural Cambodia about an 80-minute drive from the capital. This area faces challenges such as a shortage of elementary schools as well as a lack of sufficient teachers and learning materials.

While some schools in the area do have libraries, due to the absence of librarians and lack of budget, most books are in poor condition from prolonged neglect.

To address these issues GFoundation launched the ‘Mobile Library Project.’ The mobile library is stocked with a diverse collection of books and it brings them directly to the children of Kongpon Speu and their families.

Our Mobile Library visits one school each day, covering a total of five elementary schools in one week. On average, 250 students benefit from the library every single day.

Once the Mobile Library arrives at a school, the children have a wonderful time engaging with the friendly librarian, reading books and participating in activities such as group quizzes.

Through the Mobile Library project, GFoundation provided essential and high-quality reading materials and learning opportunities to around 5,000 children in the Kompong Speu region every month. Thanks to this initiative, children can now easily choose and read the books they love and gather with friends to share stories.

It’s amazing to see how this reading and companionship time provided by the Mobile Library is expanding the minds of children and their world.

“Our mission is to expand educational opportunities for underprivileged children and enhance their literacy skills. We aim to ensure that every child, no matter where they live, gets to read a book that they want and learn from them.”

 – Cambodian site manager who has been carrying out the project for the past year.

GFoundation is committed to continuing projects that benefit both students in vulnerable learning environments and students living in remote rural areas.

Our Mobile library will keep on rolling to bring dreams and hope to the children of Cambodia. GFounation was glad to be part of the educational journey of rural Cambodian children. Through similar educational projects such as this, we hope to help build a brighter future for more children of Cambodia.

Until next time, please keep the rural children of Cambodia in your thoughts and keep in touch with us as GFoundation continues to gift the opportunity for learning to the children of Cambodia.
